Jake Whisnant's firefighting career began 1978 as a volunteer and in 1981 was hired by Shelby Fire Department.
He graduated from Central Piedmont Community College in 1984, with an Associates Degree in Applied Science, Fire Protection and was promoted through the ranks to achieve Assistant Fire Chief in 1998.
Elected as President of the Western NC Firefighters Association in 2002, he completed Municipal Administration Training at UNC Chapel Hill School of Government in 2006.
He is an active member of Holly Spring Baptist Church, in Rutherfordton NC. He and his wife of 32 years, Beverly Robbins Whisnant, have two sons, Jonathan and Justin.
