Assistant Fire Chief / Assistant Fire Marshal

SALARY RANGE: $42,719 – $64,079
The Town of Spring Lake is currently seeking a highly qualified individual to serve as full-time Assistant Fire Chief/Assistant Fire Marshal.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists in the planning and preparation of activities of the department to include budget preparation, purchase of equipment, and personnel administration;
- Plans and implements programs to assist in the reduction of community fire hazards;
- Assists in the implementation and maintenance of departmental procedures and policies for fire and rescue operations and in order to remain complaint with federal, state, and local laws and regulations;
- Plans, organizes, and directs the programs and personnel of the Fire Prevention Division;
- Conducts fire inspections and coordinates the utilization of personnel in the inspection of businesses, residential dwellings, mercantile, institutional, educational, manufacturing, and other buildings and places of assembly;
- Issues warnings and citations for violations of Town Ordinances;
- Investigates fires which are suspicious and coordinates findings with appropriate law enforcement personnel;
- Reviews building plans for compliance with fire prevention codes.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent;
- No disqualifying felony convictions or misdemeanors;
- North Carolina Level II Fire Inspector;
- Fire Investigator;
- NC Level II Fire Instructor;
- NC Level II Fire Fighter Certification;
- North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician – B;
- NC Hazmat Operations Level Certification;
- North Carolina Driver License Class B;
- NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800;
- NC Emergency Vehicle Driver;
- Minimum of five (5) years experience in fire suppression, fire inspection, and supervision; or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training;
- Intermediate knowledge of ACE Firehouse Software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- NC Pump and Aerial Certification
- NC Fire Officer I;
- Infection Control; Trench Rescue and Confined Space Rescue
