Fire Chief

Closing Date:  March 15, 2012
The Town of Sunset Beach is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Fire Chief. Candidates should have supervisory and managerial experience, as well as a successful leadership record including command experience.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • fire prevention
  • fire prevention inspections
  • suppression equipment and facility maintenance
  • budget preparation and administration
  • recruitment and training of firefighters
  • fire ground/incident command, and
  • day-to-day operations of a fire department

Minimum requirements are:

  • high school diploma; preferably an associate’s degree in fire science
  • ten (10) years experience in various phases of fire service work
  • two (2) years supervisory experience
  • North Carolina Firefighter II Certification
  • NC-EMT Certification
  • North Carolina Fire Instructor Certification
  • water rescue certified (or obtain w/i 1 year)
  • working knowledge of all federal and state laws relating to fire department operations
  • basic knowledge of the repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment
  • understanding of municipal operations
  • strong organization and public relations skills

Must have a valid North Carolina Driver’s License Class B or higher.
